Jus sayin' watch what you say

Make sure you make your wishes known.....but make sure that your message is CLEAR!  Timing is everything ~ 'jus sayin'

"Gladys" husband:  "I want to be cremated"

"Gladys":  "OK, just empty your pockets and let's get in the car"

"Gladys" husband:  "Well, I wasn't meaning TODAY!"

"Gladys":  "You're right.....we need to make a dental appointment first to remove all that gold!"

"Jus sayin"  I'm "Gladys Friday" today....aren't you?

Spring is in the air and conference / event planners are making a list and checking it twice.  They wanna make sure that Denise AND "Gladys" are on their list.  Thank you for the invitations already received!

Also, Undercover Patient Assessments are being booked.  I love hearing from professionals that they want each patient experience to be the best it can be.  It's great to be part of making something better.

"Topless Cruise in Belmont" ~ taking our tops down for cancer patients

It's a great day to be "Gladys Friday" because we are ALL glad it's Friday today.

She's really LOST HER TOP this time!    My boss, Denise Price Thomas had a dream and she isn't just putting legs to her dream, she's putting WHEELS on her dream.    For Breast Cancer Awareness, she dreamed that she and her friends drove TOPLESS through downtown Belmont, NC (her home).  Drove topless convertibles, that is.   So, with that the "Topless Cruise in Belmont" was born.  The event will take place November 2, 2013 at 2 pm.

Save the date ~ Save the tatas!

ALL proceeds will go to Cancer Services of Gaston County to assist patients in need.  Locals Helping Locals to help provide the proper nutrition, medications, dressings, equipment and more.

Seeing the positive actions through "Gladys" eyes or "Denise's" eyes.....is truly a heartwarming experience.  It's all about "Neighbors in deed helping neighbors in need"

Please stop by for a peek.....Facebook page:  Topless Cruise in Belmont
You are welcome to LIKE & SHARE and let others know you care.

Happy weekend!

New hire physical

Hello friends ~

I am excited to report that it has been a very busy summer!   "Gladys" has thought of you all very often...she just hasn't had a chance to sit down and blog a spell.

She wanted to share another true story about a very dear friend who was going to work for a new company.  He was very excited and a bit nervous too.  The physician was completing his new hire physical and turned around to look over the chart.  "Let's see" the doctor said, "it looks as though we have checked everything.....oh, I need to check your adenoids"   When the doctor turned back around, facing the patient, he was startled when he found himself facing pants on the ground and a bare behind.  Yep, you guessed it!  My friend thought the doctor said, "......oh, I need to check for hemorrhoids!"

I see you're smiling now ~ keep it up and enjoy your weekend!

September was exceptionally productive for Denise Price Thomas & "Gladys Friday" including:

  • Customized a program for a large group of healthcare professionals for their lakeside retreat

  • Radio interview by Rebecca Morehead, Practice Management Solutions

Wet to Dry Dressing

The Friday Funny from "Gladys Friday"

We all know about that wonderful wet to dry dressing.....now if we could only get around to that wet to dry weather!

It has rained so long that I have forgotten what it's like to "wet my plants" :)

One thing about this summer so far.....it's only rained once.  It just hasn't stopped!  The good news.....we have no drought....YAY!

Speaking of wet to dry.....my friend had two little boys.  One was napping in his crib and the 2 year old was ready to play.  He climbed up into the crib and got the sleeping baby out.  When my friend (the Mommy) realized the baby was missing from his crib, she of course turned to the 2 year old, frantically asking the question:  "Where is the baby!?!"  The toddler said, "in the dryer Mommy, the baby was WET!"  FORTUNATELY the toddler could not reach the controls (whew!)

New Chaperone

I have been a chaperone many times in my life....standing in more times than I can remember while a patient was being examined, chaperoning youth events, chaperoning my kids beach trips, field trips, movies and much more.  My granddaughter was planning to get together with some of her friends and I was honored when she said, "Nana, will you Strapalong?"  (insert my puzzled / twisted face here) and I asked what I would need to be doing as a "Strapalong"  and she explained, "Nothing really, just be there to watch over us and help us out if we need you."  I had this vision of me being strapped to her....which is not a bad idea for those sweet little teen years.  Of course I was honored to be a "Strapalong" ~ anything, anytime for those grands!

Enjoy your weekend!

"The Ants Come Marching Home"

Memorial Day is such a somber occasion, a time to reflect and remember those who have given their lives for our freedom.

Family and friends will gather, continuing to celebrate that freedom as they join in the festivities planned around a much needed three day weekend.

As I was grocery shopping for the weekend, I received a call from my home and what I heard my cousin say was:  "The ants are back and they are already all over your kitchen!"

I responded:  "There's ant killer underneath the sink, spray them quickly or they will be taking over the entire house, we sure don't need that with company coming!"

There was silence....a long pause......followed by: "OK, but what shall I do about our Uncles who are with them?"

Communication is VERY important, wouldn't you say?  Especially in healthcare.  We THINK someone understands exactly what we have said.....but it often takes on an entirely different meaning.  Just like the time when the patient didn't hear the part of removing the foil from the suppository!  "BLESS!"

Always make sure your understanding is understood.

Enjoy your weekend everyone......"I'm Gladys Friday" and I know you are too!

Upcoming Weekend Experiment

Happy Friday everyone!

"Ms. Gladys" wants to let you in on a little experiment she will be working on this weekend.   With swimsuit weather just around the corner (we hope!) ~ "Gladys" has decided she needs to "shape up" a bit.  So......she has purchased LOTS of Shrink Wrap and will be wrapping it from her waist down.  She has also ordered CASES of "Stretch Genie Spray"(used for stretching shoes) and will be spraying that on her upper chest area.  If it works, she will invite you all over for her Oil of Ole` party!  "CHEERS!"

PS ~ if you don't hear back from her.....she must have over-sprayed :)

"Gladys" is busy entertaining with humor and Denise with customer service training, inspiring and motivating physicians, healthcare professionals, being an Undercover Patient and following up with training as well as speaking for women's events.

A crummy day ~

It's very interesting to see people who eat in the "No Food Zone" of healthcare. If they only knew how they look from the other side.  If they only knew the negative seeds they are planting.  If they only knew how many eyes were upon them.  If they only knew the GERMS being shared! Denise Price Thomas experiences this first hand as an "Undercover Patient"

"Gladys Friday" wishes to share a bit of humor to help the medicine go down a little easier.

My BOSS gave me a colonoscopy....

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month ~

MOST people do not ENJOY having a colonoscopy.  Scheduling "one of those" is never as much fun as going to the hair salon for a "Bleaching & Preaching"

However, my sister's VERY FIRST colonoscopy saved her life!   Remember....MY BOSS performed mine.....and I lived to tell about it and share this little song with you ~  ENJOY!

This week's VMGMA Conference was AWESOME!

This week I also had the privilege of being an Undercover Patient for two physician practices.  Do you know how YOUR practice looks from the other side?

Thank you to the Ladies of St. Mark's Methodist in Belmont for inviting me to speak for your Ladies Night Out this week.

"Who WOOD have thought?"

Denise's granddaughter Jillian spent the night this week and she really loves to dress up, put on make-up and style hair (like her Mom & Nana).   So, she asked her Nana if she could put her make-up on.  "Nana" (Denise) thought it would be safer to have her dry her hair.  So Jillian was very excited about that, she was going to be the hairdresser.  Combing through the wet hair she said, "Nana, your hair looks like my sewing machine string.  I could cut it off and use it to sew something in my sewing machine that Santa brought me!"  Denise said she really didn't think she wanted a haircut so Jillian continued to dry it.    All finished up with make-up and hair, Jillian said, "NOW you look like GEORGE WASHINGTON!"  Nana responded...."at least my teeth aren't wooden" and Jillian said "yeah, but how about that nose?!?"    Who WOOD have thought?

"Before she died"

Welcome "Friday" Friends!

"Gladys Friday" visited a dear friend recently and during the conversation, I couldn't help but wonder........(please insert SOUTHERN DRAWL here, slow it down and add a dip of snuff if you'd like)

"Gladys, you member Estelle don't ye?  Well, she wuz my Momma an nems neighbor fir yeeers.   They used to sit on the front porch and dip snuff together, theyz real close.  Well anyhow, before she died she'd call me up and ask me to take her down thur to the laundry mat to warsh her clothes.  So, I'd carry her down thar.  Em yunguns didn't come round er and help er out one bit til theyz a needin' someum.  Then theyz a callin her all the time.  I remember one day she had me to carry her over ta post office to mail em yunguns a check, course that was for she died.   Lord have mercy when I'd take her sommers like at and we'd git back, she'd make us some biskits and coffee and them wuz sum of the bestest I'd ever eat in my life....course that was before she died.  I shore do miss Estelle.  You eat her biskits for she died, ain't ye Gladys?  Can you make em biskits?  I shore am hungry!  I miss at Estelle"

During the conversation, "before she died" just hit me!  Think about it.....how many times do you think she's called SINCE she died?   Hopefully she isn't needing clean laundry, or needing to mail a check.....but now them biskits!    Mmmmm ~ I shore do miss Estelle!

Isn't it fun to think about what we are saying and even funnier to think about what someone ELSE is saying?  I'm just sayin'

"Ginger's Story"

Happy New Year my friends!  I hope you all enjoyed Christmas with the ones you love.  I bet you were happy to see the car lights pulling in with family and friends....and just as happy to see their tail lights pulling out of the driveway.  Those wonderful moments make memories to be cherished for a lifetime.

Well, I found someone that seemed a bit let down after the holidays, feeling a little left out.  I'd like to tell you her story as I see it.

This is "Ginger" ~ I walked by my kitchen table, looking down at the tray of cookies and "she" caught my eye.  She seemed to be feeling a bit crummy and looking a little rough around the edges after the holidays, feeling like a leftover.  She was hurt because everyone had been telling her how pretty she was, how wonderful she smelled and just how much they loved her....and then.....

What WAS SHE THINKING!  After all...the holidays were over!!  Now, no one gave her a second look.  She feared being tossed away....being just a memory.  But she had so many plans...

Soccer anyone?  "I've been feeling a little full in the middle so I had hopes to run and play and get back into shape!  I was once thin!"

"....and Santa even brought ME a pair of skates!  I wish some of my friends were still here.  They are LONG GONE by now....."

"Well, time for a new frosting.....so to the salon I go....."

She had heard talk about "raisin eyebrows" too so I'm sure she'll have them waxed while she's there.

The Adventures of Ginger
As it turned out....she had a great day and wasn't leftover after all.  You see, Ginger was the most special cookie that everyone wishes to keep around.

Denise Price Thomas & "Gladys Friday" wish you a wonderful 2013....
Let's all remember to ~ "Say when you mean....mean what you say....but don't say it mean"
