True Story as told by Denise ~ ("Gladys" boss)
It's hard to believe that 41 years ago today I received a most beautiful gift, a brown eyed little baby girl with a beautiful smile, delivering enough love to overflow my heart. Of course, things were a little different "back then!" I, along side my Mother and my sister arrived at the hospital early morning July 12....suitcase in hand. Upon check-in, the receptionist took my suitcase and me....ONLY me to the elevator. I asked if my Mother and sister could go with me......and her response was, "No mam" Oh no! You see, I really knew nothing about birthing babies! But I would soon find out first hand. I was taken to the "ward" where there were 7 filled beds and one empty....BINGO! That must be mine.
She sat my suitcase down and gave me a gown, one I had never seen. It must have been a "second" because it wasn't even sewn in the back. Oh well, I've never been a whiner or one to complain so I just put it on like she said....with a smile.
I asked why those other ladies were so loud.....she said, "oh, they are just having babies....you will be loud soon!" At that moment, I promised myself I would NOT be loud....so when that time came, I placed a pillow over my head....and no one heard my loudness.
THEN.....here comes another nurse.....razor in hand?!??!? OH MY! I had no idea the barber shop visited your room, did you? (BTW ~ a shave and a haircut for 2 cents is not true, even "back then") And then.....the nurse came back in with this bag filled with warm water....yep! You guessed it! I thought I was a little young for a colonoscopy but again, "I knew nothing about birthing babies!"
After many many hours.....I was given another gown and the opportunity to go down the hall to see my family. I put the gown on and off I went....only to fill the hand of the nurse grab me and drag me back....telling me to turn THAT gown around so that it would cover what the other one didn't. I knew there was a draft!!
Well, the next day.....I had a beautiful baby girl....my brand new bundle of pride and joy....and I thought everything was going great....UNTIL....."SERGEANT NURSE" walked into my room and said, "ROLL OVER, I GOTTA GIVE YOU A SHOT!" ~ I asked what the shot was for. She said, "TO DRY UP YOUR MILK!" and I said....."I've been here since yesterday, I've had a baby....I haven't had anything to eat or drink, not even milk....I've had no milk, I promise! " I was given the shot anyway!
Right then, my nurse, her eyes did roll
I am certain of the story she must have told
Of a day not so long ago
And a beautiful baby girl and her mom only sixteen years old
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my "little girl" today ~ reflecting on the song that I sang to her: "On the day that you were born the angels got together....and decided to create a dream come true" How proud I am of you! I love you Julie ~

HOME
Dedicated to my Mother ~ Happy 90th Birthday today!
~ Home ~
She looks at me with her
soft blue eyes
It seems as if she is
asking me why
I'm unsure of the place in
her mind she is in
She's uncertain of how her
day has been
Wherever she is, I pretend
to be there
So I play right along and
she knows I care
She smiles with grandchildren
and the great grands
She thinks everything’s
“new” over and over again
Like a wave in the ocean,
fading out to the sea
Sometimes coming closer,
sometimes farther from me
The Mother that held me tightly
in her arms
Today I must protect her
from all harm
I watch her as she walks
back into her room
Making sure she gets
there, I cannot assume
I know I will miss her
when He takes her home some day
But thankful for the
opportunity that I was given to say
"Thank you Mother for
yours and Daddy's love
And for making sure I knew
about Our Father up above"
The greatest gifts that
parents can possibly give
Are to teach and to show
their children the Christian way to live
I am so blessed to have
the years that I've had
"I sure picked the
bestest!" I would always say to Dad
She's packing up her
things again, she's going back home
It's HER Mother she wants,
so she begins to roam
The home she is longing
for is that heavenly one
To be with her loved ones,
God, The Father & The Son
In honor of Louise N.

"Cost of Living" vs. "Cost of Boarding"
True story as told by "Gladys": Denise's husband is a contractor and was doing some work for a Veterinarian. He noticed lots of traffic coming in each morning and the same ones would come back after work to pick up their pooch. He asked the receptionist about it....."How much would you charge to keep my pet?" he said. She asked how many days of the week he would like for the pet to stay and he said every day, 5 days a week. She told him the price and he asked to make the reservation for the following week. She asked him how much his pet weighed and he told her around 130 lbs. Then she asked the pet's name......"Denise" he said, "she's my pet....and my wife" She said, "Oh no sir, we can't keep your wife!" and he said....."well, it sure would be a lot cheaper than letting her keep herself!" Nice try!! Denise gave HIM a milk bone for dinner!

Rewinding the Interview
"Denise" (my boss) had the pleasure of visiting a physician's practice recently and quickly noticed that she, along with a few patients in the lobby were the only ones smiling. That reminded her that when interviewing new applicants, we meet many personalities before selecting "the right one" for the right position. "Gladys" says, wouldn't it be great if you could video the interview and hit the rewind and replay button after the new employee has been working a while, watch it with them and remind them how important it is to KEEP the job....not just to GET the job. Rewind & Remind!
After the doctor's visit, "Denise" made a trip to a hardware store....and guess what, there were smiles all around. More than 6 people asked if she needed anything....or if they could help her find anything. Have you ever complimented those employees? Have you ever given your business card to someone in a retail environment, wait staff, etc. and ask them to call you if ever they are interested in employment? Denise has. In fact, she says that you can hire a positive attitude and teach the skills and their attitude will always "SHINE" through but when you hire a negative attitude...their attitude will always "SMELL" through.
Did you know that a SNEEZE....something you don't really want to be shared with others.....will zoom out of your mouth at the speed of over 600 mph? Doesn't it make you wonder WHY a smile....something you SHOULD want to share with others can take so much longer to get there?
Why not pass along "atta girls & atta boys" to those around us that are truly "Making A Difference" and watch them SHINE!
Enjoy your weekend ~
"Gladys Friday" style....with a smile!

Gladys & Friends
"Gladys" was recently informed by her friends that there is a Shingles Vaccine. Her elderly friends even provided the phone number for her to call to inquire. The telephone conversation went as such:
Gladys ~ "Hello sir, I've had problems with shingles and my friends said you could help"
Man ~ "Yes mam, we will do our best to accommodate."
Gladys ~ "It's so nice to have a live person answer the phone, be nice AND want to help. Thank you!"
Man ~ "OK, let me get the paperwork ready, what is your address?"
Gladys gave her address along with the other necessary information required.
Man ~ "Now, would you prefer the 15 year warranty or 30 year warranty?"
Gladys ~ "Well, I'm not sure I'll still be here in 30 years, but go ahead and sign me up for the 30 year"
Man ~ "Did you take a picture of your problem?"
Gladys ~ "Yes, I did but I wouldn't want just anyone to see them"
Man ~ "They are on a flat surface?"
Gladys ~ "HOW DID YOU KNOW THEY ARE ON MY CHEST?!?"
Man ~ "Someone will be right out probably within the hour to help"
Gladys looks forward to the house call.....until.....she hears footsteps on her roof!

Gladys ~ "Oh no, I don't have a problem wearing my clothes, thank goodness."
Man ~ "Do you know if they are designer shingles?"
Gladys ~ "No, they just look like ordinary shingles to me, like everyone else has"
Man ~ "Are you interested in having designer shingles?"
Gladys ~ "Oh no, I'm just trying to get rid of these I have now"

"Are you an organ donor?"
Checking in at the reception desk prior to a procedure, the young lady asked if I were an organ donor. Already scared to death about the procedure ahead of me, I said, "Yes mam.....but not today, I hope! I really wanted to take them all back home with me!"
Today is a special day to remember & remind others just how important organ donation is. I have friends that have given and I have friends that have received. I am thankful for each of them. I am an organ donor (and so is "Gladys Friday")
