Welcome to the Friday Funny ~
I hope this true story delivers a smile ~ it certainly started our day with love & laughter.......
This was the conversation this morning between Jillian, my granddaughter who is in kindergarten and Julie (her mommy ~ my daughter):
Jillian: "Mommy my leg hurts!"
Julie: "It's ok baby, it's only growing pains."
Jillian: "Ok but Mommy it really hurts and I don't think I can go to school!"
Julie: "You'll be fine."
3 minutes later..... Jillian came downstairs with huge crocodile tears and pouting lips quivering as she said to her Mommy...."OH NO! Now my hand hurts! I don't want big hands! I want SMALL HANDS!"
Isn't that just a priceless moment! My sweet daughter allowed me to share ~ I just couldn't resist.
Of course, it started me thinking.....and I bet that is why "Gladys Friday" has been having pain in her hips......it's GROWING PAINS! "OH NO! She didn't want BIG HIPS she wanted SMALL HIPS!"
This Friday Funny was brought to you today THANKS to my daughter Julie ~ by Denise Price Thomas ~ boss of "Gladys Friday" (aka her alter ego).

Sweet Dreams
"Gladys" just cannot believe that Christmas is almost here! Recently she dreamed that her man bought her a brand new beach house. When she awoke, she just couldn't wait to tell him all about it, describing it from the front porch to the rockers on the back.
The next night, she dreamed that he had bought her a brand new boat and parked it on their very own dock at that beach house. WOW! She was really excited to share that dream with him the next morning.
The third night, she dreamed that he had booked a "getaway vacation" taking her to Italy. She could hardly contain her excitement when telling him every detail about their trip of a lifetime.
She asked, "Just what do you think all these dreams mean?" He said, "Well sugar, I really have no idea but I have a surprise for you tonight and maybe you will understand." She couldn't wait! She prepared a wonderful candlelight dinner for two and afterwards he presented her with THE GIFT he had mentioned.
Wearing a smile and unwrapping the gift box "Gladys" just couldn't keep her eyes off of him. There it was......her gift from him.....with excitement building she saw it......a BOOK with the title, "Understanding Your Dreams"
Guess who's DREAMING NOW!?!?!
"Ms Gladys" was invited this week to spend an evening at Cypress of Charlotte where she was embraced with open arms. What a wonderful time we had.
This week, she will be in Winston Salem entertaining for EMSpire Employee Christmas Party. She cannot wait to meet her new friends.
Until then, she's "Gladys Friday" today and hopes you are too!

From Senior Prom Night to "Senior Prep Night"
Time flies ~ do you enjoy thinking about your Senior Prom Night? Well, now since we are all "of the age" of having to have colonoscopies....wouldn't it be great to have "Senior Prep Night?"
I think we should rent an entire floor of a hotel, all get together "the night before" and do shots of apple juice chased with "Go Lightly" (colonoscopy prep). Tray of prunes as appetizers.
Think about it. Together we can reflect on our high school memories, play spin the bottle, twister, monopoly and when things start "HAPPENING" around there, we can go back to our room for those "private moments"
Let's be sure to get one of those hotels that have those new automatic flush toilets, they are neat! You just stand up and they flush. Of course we'll have to be careful, we might just wear out a hip while we are there.
I'm glad it's Friday today, aren't you? Enjoy your weekend ~
"Gladys Friday" ~ Cheers!
"Gladys Friday" is excited! She has been invited to be the Keynote for VMGMA ~ Virginia Medical Group Management Association in Charlottesville, Virginia. Denise Price Thomas has been invited to present break out sessions during the conference.

Energy to Eat ~
"Ms. Gladys" had so many things going on in her life and with the holidays approaching, she found herself running out of energy. So, she told her doctor that she was eating lots and lots of carbs, hoping to keep up with herself. He wanted her to try some 'all natural pep pills' which she did. So on Thanksgiving Day, she ate more than anyone in the family.....but MUCH FASTER! She was even raiding the frig all night long. So, from the looks of things, she's gonna gain weight at a much faster pace too. How about that all natural energy?
I sure hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with the ones they love, giving thanks for each and every one.....and adding a little humor along the way.

"Places To Go, People To See & All Under CONTROL"
I will never forget the day many years ago that a dear manager friend of mine held a staff meeting during lunch, followed by her visit to the restroom. Exiting the restroom and hearing sirens in front of her building, she quickly walked through the lobby, addressing and reassuring each and every patient. Seeing the flashing lights through the glass doors, she greeted the firemen, walked all around the office with them and together they confirmed it was a false alarm. She walked back through the hallways of her practice, letting all physicians and staff know that things were "under control". One person came to her with more news, "Excuse me mam, your skirt is tucked up into your pantyhose!" That was their first experience with "herassment" :) Things really were "UNDER CONTROL" (TOP PANTYHOSE)!
It's a terrific day to be "Gladys Friday" ~
I enjoyed being invited back again as the Keynote Speaker for NCHFMA Health Insurance Institute Conference yesterday. It was a wonderful day! Thanks to everyone who had a part in this well organized event. More FUN TIMES!

Medical Records with a True Twist ~
Good afternoon Friday Fans ~
A patient went to the doctor recently with edema (swelling) in her legs. After the office visit, the physician dictated the following note: "Patient comes to me today with edema in both legs." This note was transcribed electronically and entered into her chart as: "Patient comes to me today with a demon in both legs" I bet that was the same patient that had "slipped on ice and apparently her legs went in separate directions in early December" One leg must have been trying to separate from those demonic ways.
Have a wonderful weekend ~ begin it with a grin ~ from "Gladys Friday" ~ your FRIEND

Recycled "Get Well Cards" to keep visitors away ~
I've determined that everyone we meet delivers a smile ~ some smiles are delivered when they walk into our office.....(or our lives) and others deliver a smile when they walk OUT of our office (or out of our life).
I remember years ago playing "hooky" from church one Sunday when my girls were very little. We just needed a lazy kind of day...just the three of us. We didn't get out of our pi's all day! Toys were all over the place, dirty dishes were in the sink, we were having a picnic on the floor and it was a day of reading books and all about them. A very special day. THEN.....KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK! There was a knock on the door!!! Who could THAT be? There were two ladies standing on my porch, Sunday School books in hand. Seems that we were missed......BUSTED! I barely opened the door as they peeked all around me, their heads stretching, going from side to side to get a good look, they could see that we were a MESS and so was the house! They also saw the "get well cards" that I KEEP lined up on the table in the foyer just in case someone comes by and the house is a wreck....I get to hear them say "well BLESS HER LITTLE HEART, SHE HAS REALLY BEEN SICK!"
They quickly covered their nose and mouth with their hands and off the porch they went. Their tail lights looked SO NICE pulling out of the driveway....thus a smile was delivered. My girls and I continued our picnic enjoying our lazy kind of day...with a smile.
Because we are all "Gladys Friday" today ~ be sure to create some lazy days with those you love & enjoy! Let me know if you need some "get well cards"

GEROWINDS (In Home Carowinds for Seniors)
Have you noticed the TV commercials advertising chair lifts for your home? It is obvious they are so much fun because everyone on the commercial is laughing and smiling up and down the stairway. "WEEEEEE" In fact, it looked like so much fun that my husband ordered one! It has now been installed in our home on the stairway that leads to the bar downstairs. He loves it! He is able to stack 4 cases of beer on it and send it downstairs to the bar without hurting his back, which delivers him a smile. Once the beer has been consumed, he can still be the designated driver this way....riding it back up......laughing and smiling up and down the stairway. No worries. So whenever you see the commercial again, just remember where those people with smiles are headed ~ "CHEERS!"
But hold on to your hat.....it is GEROWINDS ~ the new In Home Carowinds for Seniors. Takes our breath away ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

New "employee" added to the "Gladys Friday" program ~
"Ms. Gladys" just wanted you all to know that there's a brand new employee who has just entered her program. The new employee name: "Sawyer Ashe" ~ now working in the colonoscopy clinic. "Sawyer Ashe" was previously employed by a crematory center, having tunnel vision yet a desire to be around a more lively group of people and shed more light on the subject. "Sawyer Ashe" is excited at the opportunity to see things through a different light and is excited about joining our program....things are already "looking up!"
A SURPRISE appearance was made by "Ms Gladys" last evening following a terrific LIFT event (Ladies In Fellowship Together). The evening was filled with wonderful music, the message delivered by Denise Price Thomas was "Mirror Mirror on the Wall...Who Am I After All?" and then......after a quick and secret change of character (and clothing) "Ms Gladys" stole the mic. Smiles were contagious all over the room of 283 women...which was a sell out! Thank you, First Baptist Church, Clover, SC for the invitation. This was a terrific, well planned event! Ladies came from "all around" (some of US are more around than others). It was truly an awesome night.
I'm "Gladys Friday" and hope you are too. Enjoy your weekend.....in JOY!

My....things sure have changed!
True Story as told by Denise ~ ("Gladys" boss)
It's hard to believe that 41 years ago today I received a most beautiful gift, a brown eyed little baby girl with a beautiful smile, delivering enough love to overflow my heart. Of course, things were a little different "back then!" I, along side my Mother and my sister arrived at the hospital early morning July 12....suitcase in hand. Upon check-in, the receptionist took my suitcase and me....ONLY me to the elevator. I asked if my Mother and sister could go with me......and her response was, "No mam" Oh no! You see, I really knew nothing about birthing babies! But I would soon find out first hand. I was taken to the "ward" where there were 7 filled beds and one empty....BINGO! That must be mine.
She sat my suitcase down and gave me a gown, one I had never seen. It must have been a "second" because it wasn't even sewn in the back. Oh well, I've never been a whiner or one to complain so I just put it on like she said....with a smile.
I asked why those other ladies were so loud.....she said, "oh, they are just having babies....you will be loud soon!" At that moment, I promised myself I would NOT be loud....so when that time came, I placed a pillow over my head....and no one heard my loudness.
THEN.....here comes another nurse.....razor in hand?!??!? OH MY! I had no idea the barber shop visited your room, did you? (BTW ~ a shave and a haircut for 2 cents is not true, even "back then") And then.....the nurse came back in with this bag filled with warm water....yep! You guessed it! I thought I was a little young for a colonoscopy but again, "I knew nothing about birthing babies!"
After many many hours.....I was given another gown and the opportunity to go down the hall to see my family. I put the gown on and off I went....only to fill the hand of the nurse grab me and drag me back....telling me to turn THAT gown around so that it would cover what the other one didn't. I knew there was a draft!!
Well, the next day.....I had a beautiful baby girl....my brand new bundle of pride and joy....and I thought everything was going great....UNTIL....."SERGEANT NURSE" walked into my room and said, "ROLL OVER, I GOTTA GIVE YOU A SHOT!" ~ I asked what the shot was for. She said, "TO DRY UP YOUR MILK!" and I said....."I've been here since yesterday, I've had a baby....I haven't had anything to eat or drink, not even milk....I've had no milk, I promise! " I was given the shot anyway!
Right then, my nurse, her eyes did roll
I am certain of the story she must have told
Of a day not so long ago
And a beautiful baby girl and her mom only sixteen years old
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my "little girl" today ~ reflecting on the song that I sang to her: "On the day that you were born the angels got together....and decided to create a dream come true" How proud I am of you! I love you Julie ~

HOME
Dedicated to my Mother ~ Happy 90th Birthday today!
~ Home ~
She looks at me with her
soft blue eyes
It seems as if she is
asking me why
I'm unsure of the place in
her mind she is in
She's uncertain of how her
day has been
Wherever she is, I pretend
to be there
So I play right along and
she knows I care
She smiles with grandchildren
and the great grands
She thinks everything’s
“new” over and over again
Like a wave in the ocean,
fading out to the sea
Sometimes coming closer,
sometimes farther from me
The Mother that held me tightly
in her arms
Today I must protect her
from all harm
I watch her as she walks
back into her room
Making sure she gets
there, I cannot assume
I know I will miss her
when He takes her home some day
But thankful for the
opportunity that I was given to say
"Thank you Mother for
yours and Daddy's love
And for making sure I knew
about Our Father up above"
The greatest gifts that
parents can possibly give
Are to teach and to show
their children the Christian way to live
I am so blessed to have
the years that I've had
"I sure picked the
bestest!" I would always say to Dad
She's packing up her
things again, she's going back home
It's HER Mother she wants,
so she begins to roam
The home she is longing
for is that heavenly one
To be with her loved ones,
God, The Father & The Son
In honor of Louise N.

"Cost of Living" vs. "Cost of Boarding"
True story as told by "Gladys": Denise's husband is a contractor and was doing some work for a Veterinarian. He noticed lots of traffic coming in each morning and the same ones would come back after work to pick up their pooch. He asked the receptionist about it....."How much would you charge to keep my pet?" he said. She asked how many days of the week he would like for the pet to stay and he said every day, 5 days a week. She told him the price and he asked to make the reservation for the following week. She asked him how much his pet weighed and he told her around 130 lbs. Then she asked the pet's name......"Denise" he said, "she's my pet....and my wife" She said, "Oh no sir, we can't keep your wife!" and he said....."well, it sure would be a lot cheaper than letting her keep herself!" Nice try!! Denise gave HIM a milk bone for dinner!
